About Dr. Alex Keegan

Dr Alex Keegan is a consultant paediatrician with more than 20 years clinical experience in paediatrics including 8 years in a substantive paediatric consultant post

Dr Keegan is the trust lead for introduction for an electronic paediatric early warning system as part of a regional project to improve early detection of the deteriorating patient. Dr Keegan is the clinical lead for the operational delivery network for children’s cancer for Thames Valley and Wessex. Dr Keegan is the deputy clinical director for child health in her trust.

She is the lead for clinical risk and patient safety for child health in a large UK foundation trust. She has led a project to design a new referral proforma for GPs to use for suspected childhood cancer. She has done several regional presentations on diagnosis on children’s cancer. She has joined regular regional panels looking at cases regarding deteriorating children in the hospital setting. She has presented a clinical case at a paediatric intensive care education conference on the diagnosis of sepsis and recognition of the deteriorating child.

Experience

Dr. Alex Keegan  has over 6 years experience in acting as an expert advisor in clinical negligence claims for both the claimant and defendant. She is well placed to provide expert opinion on a range of different cases including general paediatrics and acute paediatrics. She has a sub specialist interest in paediatric oncology and palliative care.

Training and Qualifications

Dr. Alex Keegan  has completed formal expert witness training through the Cardiff University Law School Bond Solon Civil Expert Certificate. This is the first University accredited expert witness qualification in the UK and includes specialist training in report writing, courtroom skills, cross examination, and civil law and procedure
